Dr. Junjun Yin, a longtime member and collaborator within the EDeN research community, has accepted a position as Assistant Professor of Data Science in the Columbian College of Arts & Sciences at The George Washington University, beginning August 1, 2025.

Dr. Yin departs from his role as an Assistant Research Professor at the Social Science Research Institute and the Population Research Institute at Penn State. He first joined Penn State under the mentorship of Dr. Guangqing Chi, who brought him into the university to contribute to interdisciplinary projects at the intersection of geospatial big data, computational social science, and population and environmental research.

At GW, Dr. Yin will teach Data Visualization for Data Science in Fall 2025. His research program will continue to focus on leveraging geospatial Big Data, AI, and computational approaches to better understand human–environment interactions, climate change perceptions, and urban dynamics. He remains deeply committed to interdisciplinary collaboration and welcomes opportunities to partner with researchers across diverse domains.

"It has been a privilege to contribute to the EDeN community while at Penn State," said Dr. Yin. "I am especially grateful to Dr. Chi for bringing me to Penn State and supporting my academic journey. I look forward to building on these collaborations in my new role at GW, and to continuing our shared efforts to address complex environmental and societal challenges through data science."

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Yin on this exciting new chapter.
